I see Iranian textiles as portals through time and space: they hold histories of labor (especially gendered labor), highlight the global trade and transfer of ideas (ie. patterns that were developed as a result of artistic influence on the Silk Road), and the carpets themselves erode overtime in response to use (threads erode and fray and color fades after exposure to sun). In this collage series I use Iranian textiles, family archival material, and images of stars and galaxy to juxtapose time on various scales and blend personal and cultural history.
